Screw drivers, Wrench set
Dishes were not getting clean or dry. Dishwasher diagnostic codes showed diverter sensor failure
Get a couple of old bath towels ready to sop up water. You will need a philips screwdriver, straight blade screwdriver, 5/8 open end wrench or small crescent wrench, and a flashlight. Remove the toe kick panel. Unplug the dishwasher from the wall. Turn off the water supply valve at the wall. Remove the 2 screws attaching the dishwasher to the underside of your countertop. Loosen the hose clamp on the drain hose connection under the dishwasher. Use those towels to sop up the water that gushes out (literally). Use the wrench to disconnect the water supply line under the dishwasher near the front left side. Sop up more water. Now, slide the dishwasher out from under the counter and lay it on it's back on the floor. To replace the diverter valve, use the Torx driver to remove the 2 screws holding the diverter unit in place and pull the unit straight out from the bottom of the dishwasher. notice the shaft on the old diverter is "T" shaped. Chances are the new diverter valve shaft will not be in the same relative orientation. Take your flat bladed screw driver and your flashlight. Look into the hole that the shaft was removed from and using the flat blade screw driver, rotate the mating part until the "T" shaft receptacle aligns with the position of the new diverter valve shaft. You will not be able to set the new valve in place until you have the receptacle properly aligned; it will take a bit of trial and error before it the new valve will slip in. Don't try to force it; just be patient and keep tweeking the position with the flat blade screwdriver until the valve slips in nice and easy. Re-install the 2 Torx screws; these are self threading screws, so if you set them in the holes and gently rotate them counter clockwise until you feel a slight "click" before screwing them in (clockwise now), you will align the threads with the original threads and not re-thread the holes which will preserve the integrity of the original assembly. Stand the unit back on it's feet, slide it back under the counter and re-attach it to the underside of your counter with the screws you removed. Re-connect the water supply. Turn the water supply valve back on and check for any leaks. Re-connect the drain hose. Sop up more water. Plug it into the wall. Re-install the toe plate. Tell your wife how hard it was, but also that you just saved about $200. That should earn you a beer or a foot rub for your reward for being such a handy guy.
