This is a single grease filter for a microwave. Most microwaves have two filters, the other one being the charcoal filter, which is a different filter, sold separately, and has different maintenance instructions. The grease filter prevents grease from making its way into the ventilating hood. If you notice grease has started to accumulate in this area, the grease filter should either be cleaned or replaced. When cleaning the grease filter, be sure to use mild soap and water as harmful chemicals can cause damage, and this should be repeated monthly. This filter is located on the underside of the microwave. To remove it, slide the filter away from the tab area and drop out the filter. To install your new filter, place the end of the filter into the opening opposite to the tab area, lift the other end, and slide it into the tab area until it is secure.

This is a genuine OEM replacement charcoal filter for your over-the-range microwave. The charcoal filter is used in models that recirculate the air instead of venting it outdoors, and they remove the cooking odors that result from preparing your food.
