How to Fix a Drain Hose for a Washer That Will Not Agitate

While the drain hose isn’t a common cause of your washer not agitating, it can sometimes be the problem. If the drain hose is creating a suction effect, your washer fills and drains simultaneously. Without any water in the tub, the machine can’t agitate. You are more likely to notice that there isn’t any water before you notice the washer isn’t agitating. If this is something you’re experiencing, the information below can help you resolve this issue.

What is a Drain Hose? Where is it Located?

The purpose of the drain hose is to move the water out of your washer and into the drain. If your drain hose has been attached with a clamp, it can cause a suction effect that results in the machine emptying the water as it’s also filling. If there is no water in the washer, the agitate cycle cannot start. You can find the drain hose at the lower back side of your washer.
