How to Fix an Electronic Control for a Washer That Has Locking Issues

The electronic control board allows you to control the functions of your washer with a series of buttons. So, if your washer cannot control its locking and unlocking functions, the board may be at fault.

What is the Electronic Control Board?

The electronic control is also known as the control board. It is responsible for the washer's functions such as filling, washing, draining, and spinning. It times and initiates the cycles and allows you to press different buttons on the machine to control the washer.

Where is the Electronic Control Board Located?

The electrical control/control board is usually found in the control panel.

How to Access, Remove, and Inspect the Electronic Control Board

  1. Unplug your machine and shut off the water valves.
  2. To access the control board, you need to begin by removing the timer knob. You can use a piece of string to make this easier.
  3. Detach the control panel from the machine to access the control board.
  4. Make a note of where the control board wires are connected and proceed to remove them.
  5. At this point, you can test the terminals on the control board with a multimeter. If there is no reading or the reading is negative, then the control board has failed, and it needs to be replaced.
